Yesterday, while checking the ponds on Rt. 3 East at the Farley Vale Farm
pull-off in King George County, I encountered what I believe to have been a
pair of COMMON RAVENS. I observed the two birds for several minutes noting
shape, size, flight, and behavior, but I was unable to confirm the sighting
as the din of road traffic was too great to hear their calls. I lost tract
of one bird while observing the other fly toward the KG Co. landfill. Both
birds were associated with a group of five Bald Eagles (2 adults & 3 imm.)
all of which were on the wing and at times putting down in the in the large
agricultural field across the highway.
It was nice to see Joyce and Michael Bathke pull up, but unfortunately they
were a little too late to see the birds in question.
If anyone is in the area, keep a look-out for these two birds. It would be
great to have another sighting.
