On Thursday, June 9, while walking on the Blue Ridge Parkway, I heard an
Eastern Wood-Pewee singing near MP 105. It is the first one I've heard so
far this year. But then, I wasn't able to get out much in April and May so
may have just missed him. I think I heard him again this morning doing a
shorter version of the song.
Five Gray Squirrels were under my feeders today. I think they are bringing
the youngsters AND they are all getting hungry. I'm sure they have eaten up
all their nuts and they have finished off most of the mulberries. One of
the young (?) ones was a reddish brown - very bright in the sunshine. I
thought at first it might be a different species but I have never seen any
but the gray squirrels around here. Except for the distinctive color, it
looked like all the others. How common is this?
