Sunday, June 10, 2012: Two of us went downtown in search of the young
Peregrines and their parents. We arrived around 7:15 pm and parked
near Kanawha Plaza. Within an hour, the young male, his two sisters
and an adult were observed. The young male was screaming and following
his parent closely in the air between the Dominion and McQuireWoods
buildings. Sometimes it looked as if he was attacking the adult.
The young females have some interesting behavior patterns. One bird
seems to continually bop her head up and down while perched on the
ledge of a building (nickname: Bea Bopper). The second female appears
to be scanning her surroundings all the time.
Looks like Aug. 4, the Gone to the Birds Festival 2012, will have 5
healthy Falcons with which to contend! Thanks go to Jim Melton for his
