When I saw the putative Eurasian Wigeon yesterday I was unaware it was
thought to be a possible hybrid or I would have studied it more carefully.
I did, however, see the head very clearly in really good light (sun behind
me). It was dark reddish with a creamy forehead--a slightly darker red
than the Redheads surrounding it at the time. There was no green at all
but it may be possible for iridescence to show up in different light. The
pale loral area didn't strike me at the time, but it does suggest American
Wigeon genes as Rob Young says. The side of the bird was pale gray with
little or no color.
Weather permitting, I may try again tomorrow to study it a bit more and try
for some good photos.
