A project supported this year by the VSO's Small Grants Conservation Fund is
the trail of 100 Prothonotary Warbler nest boxes at Northwest River Park in
Chesapeake, VA.
Sixty boxes were added this spring to the existing 40 installed in 2008.
Stephen Living, Wildlife Biologist with VA Dept of Game & Inland Fisheries, and
I are monitoring the boxes weekly and banding nestlings and adults. We have
great assistance from volunteers plus supplies and equipment funded by the VSO,
Coastal VA Wildlife Observatory, VA Dept of Game and Inland Fisheries, Richmond
Audubon, Williamsburg Bird Club, and individual members of each of these
organizations.
Dr. Bob Reilly, Vice President of CVWO and Master Bander, is in charge of the
efforts at this Chesapeake location, one of 5 sites with over 700 Prothonotary
Warbler boxes in the Piedmont and Coastal Plain of VA.

Thanks to CVWO President Brian Taber for letting me post to his blog every now
and then. Many thanks to all the organizations and individuals who are making
this nesting season a success.
