There was also a single white-rumped sandpiper, with 18 killdeer, at Singerly
pond where route 624 intersects Carter's Wharf Rd near Newland in Richmond Co
yesterday (6/14).

Subject: [Va-bird] White-rumped Sandpiper - Huntley Meadows, Alexandria
I did a quick walk through Huntley Meadows this morning and found a
White-rumped
Sandpiper with an injured foot or leg in amongst the Killdeer viewable from the
raised platform on the boardwalk loop. It was hobbling around, but feeding
actively and flying little bursts here and there.
I tried to get some photos, but the bird was way outside the range of my lens -
apologies for the poor quality. Links to two of the photos are:

(the white rump is very clear in this photo)

I looked on eBird - this seems to be quite an uncommon bird for Fairfax County.
There only recent records of sightings were in 2002, 2003 and 2007. Of course
if I would ever remember to buy the Gold Book I'm sure I'd be able to find
additional Fairfax County sightings :)
Cheers,
