Hello Fellow Birders,
I have been birding for more than 15 years, but admittedly not for a few years
since I moved to VA. This year, I picked up the binoculars and dusted them off
and got back into it, enjoying myself very much. I discovered this listserv
thanks to a great lady I met at Huntley Meadows, who told me where to find it
(you know who you are - look forward to seeing you again soon!). I have posted
maybe 5 or 6 times now, sharing my sightings for anyone who is interested. I
have met and established contact with several birders who, like me, are "in it"
for the enjoyment or staring at birds for hours on end in the blazing sun,
torrential rain, etc. However, on two occasions I have received personal
e-mails from two people who are well known to this board - one questioning the
validity of my Philadelphia Vireo sighting (really, it's not that rare), the
other "suggesting" where I park my car!! Are these occurrences commonplace ont
his board, or is it just that I am a new poster to the listserv? In a
nutshell, I post to the board so others may benefit from my very frequent
outings - I certainly benefit from others' posts. However, if posting means
that I am going to get headaches that I do not need, then perhaps my
participation isn't necessary. If someone has a criticism, do everyone a favor
and post it to the whole board so we can have a truly open form. Otherwise,
let's just try to be civil and remember that we are all just trying to have a
good time out there.
Thanks,
Jay Keller
