No--it's not steep. The parts I have been on had a steady incline, because
the trail follows the creek bed and an old road....which confuses me, because I
thought that designated "wilderness" areas could have any visible signs of
humans...

Ramsey's Draft on Rte 250, west of Staunton, has some of the last =
old growth Hemlocks on the East Coast--but more and more are dying each =
year because of insects. Some of the trees about 6 miles up the trail =
are thought to be unharvested "originals." Why have they lasted? =
...because they would be too difficult to remove from the ravine they =
are growing in. I have not seen these trees myself, because my knees =
will last only 6 or 7 miles at most, and to get to the old growth, round =
trip, requires 12-mile knees!
