The Forest area of Bedford County continues to be a hotspot for rare
geese. In addition to the previously reported GREATER WHITE-FRONTED GEESE
(Jan 22), I saw 2 ROSS'S GEESE (first found by Bob Epperson) at the London
Downs pond along Rt 811 on Jan 23, 2018. A little while later, I saw 4
CACKLING GEESE at Ivy Lake on Ivy Lake Drive off of Perrowville Road (Rt
663). These geese are presumed to be the same four that have been seen at
various locations in the area since mid December 2017.
