this am, along the inside trail by the creek between the Wetlands and the Pony
Pasture. Perched, silent, then chased by a crow, showing significant size
difference and the characteristic tail. I wouldn't have believed it, nor have I
ever seen a Raven in this park, but I was walking along with Lesley Bulluck and
her VCU Ornithology class, and we just gaped at each other in disbelief, and
then confirmed it together.
Otherwise no sign of the Blue-winged Teals reported earlier this week, but
Bonaparte Gulls still on the River. Numerous Prothonotary and Yellow-throated
Warblers, a Blue-Grey Gnatcatcher on a nest, singing White-eyed Vireos,? and a
late Hermit Thrush, were the most notable birds. No Ovenbirds, Black & White
Warblers, or Common Yellowthroats.
