Yesterday during a beach survey at the refuge I saw a single
Razorbill flying south with a group of Black Scoters, almost all males.
It seemed quite happy to be in with the sea ducks.
On an almost totally unrelated item, my wife saw a hummingbird
briefly visit our feeder on Tuesday. The sugar water in the feeder was
obnoxious and I certainly understand why the hummer stayed only a short
time. I did a thorough cleaning and refilling job, but sadly it hasn't
returned. The lesson is clearly - it's never too late for an offseason
hummer, so be prepared. Sigh!
