It's been a delight to have a Red-breasted Nuthatch visiting my feeders –
mainly suet - since October 29. (I rarely even have the White-breasted.)
There may be more than one but I've never seen two at the same time. He
prefers the suet feeder and is quite tame compared with all the other birds
except the Chickadees. Twice when I was filling the feeders he landed just a
few feet from me and didn't back off when he saw me. But I backed away a bit
and watched until he left. I see him nearly every day. I wonder when he will
head back north. I kept hoping for Pine Siskins but gave up by the second
week in January.
