Hi all,
There were three RED-NECKED GREBES in the James visible from the beach at
Ragged Island WMA this morning. One was feeding close enough to shore that
binoculars were not needed! This is the furthest upstream I've seen the
species this year but the recent winter storm seems to have stirred a large
movement. A large raft of 44 Surf Scoter were also in the area.
I also noticed an unusually large amount of 'Red' Fox Sparrows foraging at
the edge of ag fields this morning in my travels, possibly also blown in
with the storm?
Good birding,
