Today we had our first of season catbirds return to the hawthorn tree next
to our back porch in downtown Abingdon, Virginia. We have recorded cat
birds coming to this site at about this time since 2011. We feed the pair
apples cut in half placed on our porch rail. The birds typically feed on
them for several weeks until their young hatch and they get serious about
catching insects. This year the birds seem to be arriving about 10 days
earlier than in previous years. Ed Morgan
