OK, I was really out there for Vernal Pools with my VMN peeps, but of course
I had binoculars and ears. There is a black vulture at Turkey Island Road
as it meets Rt. 5 if anyone wants to check on it. I am in no position to
deal with it today. It limps and glides short distances but does not fly
away. I heard N. bobwhite further down the road by the two silver silos on
the Curles Neck side. At the Curles Neck entrance a pair of adult eagles
was in a field.
At the Rice Center building I heard a black throated green warbler. Lots of
phoebes, one adult bald eagle and 2 Caspian terns out in "Tar Bay" later in
the day.
Harrison Lake parking area am: gray catbird FOS, GC flycatcher, nesting WB
nuthatches.
" " road to lake pm: male SCTA singing, male hooded
warbler singing and FOS, very vocal YB chat (wouldn't exactly describe that
as singing)-first I have seen that wasn't wearing a new bracelet. In the
parking area for the hatchery operation to the left of the birdhouse and
Visitors Parking sign there is a killdeer nest in the gravel near a big
weed. I marked it as best I could, but if someone knows who to contact
maybe they have a traffic cone or something?
Plenty of prothonotaries heard out on Kimages Rd. Also a flock of red
wings, all female, lots of BGGN, swamp darners and damselflies, and all the
usual suspects. Even sick I am still managing to see a little, but then I
need a long nap. Have a great evening.
