Four friends took a walk around the grounds of Rippon Lodge in Woodbridge this
morning to explore a new birding area. Rippon Lodge was built around 1747 and
is one of the oldest houses still standing in Prince William County. It is set
on about 40 wooded acres overlooking Neabsco Creek and the Potomac River. This
morning's casual walk was a moderately successful hour, with 25 species
spotted. Our highlights were a Baltimore Oriole, what seems to becoming an
increasingly scarce Wood Thrush, and many freshly molted Eastern Bluebirds. I
think a more intense survey of this beautiful property will produce many more
