Ralph Wall, Keith and Christie Huffman, and I birded the meadow at Riverbend
Park this morning, starting at about 7:30.
We concentrated, and had the most luck, in the trees and bushes along
Jeffrey road that we're bathed in bright sunshine.
We had wonderful looks at least 10 maybe 15 Black-throated Green warblers.
Many of the birds were down on the wing-stem in front of the bushes, sometimes
only 15 or 20 feet away, and in the bright sunshine. At one point we had two
Back-throated greens, about 15 feet away, on the same Wing-stem 4 or 5 inches
apart, again in the sunshine. (Oh, why did I leave my camera at home?)
We also saw at least six or eight Magnolia Warbers, and I had another one
along the road driving out.
We saw at least two Chestnut-sided warblers, three Tennessee warblers, two or
three common Yellow-throat's, and a winter plumage Palm warbler .
There were also also multiple Phoebes, Peewees, a couple of Empids, 10 or more
Chipping sparrows, some Indigo Buntings, and countless bluebirds and
goldfinches.
There were also a lot of warblers in the top of the big, tall, oak trees
across Jeffrey Road that were simply too far away to see or identify, but there
were lots of birds up there.
Migration season is such fun!
