A couple of friends and I walked upriver from the visitor center at
Riverbend Park this afternoon to check on the ducks on the Potomac.
No Scoter today.
We did find 30 or 40 Bufflehead (both males and females),
Hooded Mergansers (2 males and 4 females),
one male and three female Common Mergansers,
a few Black Ducks and some Mallards.
The late afternoon light brought out all the colors on these beautiful
ducks.
If you want to go to Riverbend Park to look for ducks, I strongly recommend
a sunny afternoon between 2:30 and 4:00.
The light on both the river and the birds just wonderful.
I plan to go back, with some different friends, at the same time tomorrow
afternoon.
