A walk through the meadow at Riverbend Park (Fairfax County) produced my
first of the fall season RUBY-CROWNED KINGLET. I also had one in my yard when
I
returned home.
The meadow had an abundance of Blue Jays, Robins, and Cardinals, but was
short on warblers. I saw only three warbler species--BLACK-THROATED GREEN,
BLACK AND WHITE, and COMMON YELLOWTHROAT. Interestingly, I saw no Indigo
Buntings
which have been abundant there in past Septembers. The good news is they
have not yet started the fall mowing in the meadow. Last year it was done in
early September thus reducing chances for spotting migrating warblers which
tend to forage in the uncut fields there, species such as Tennessee,
Nashville,
and sometimes even a Connecticut or a Golden-winged.
