Riverbend Park shared in today's migrant upswing. A walk along the river
from the boat launch to the Wendt Dr. picnic area produced a good variety of
migrants, an influx of INDIGO BUNTINGS and GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHERS leading
the way. Other species of note included WORM-EATING and PROTHONOTARY WARBLER,
WARBLING VIREO, SCARLET TANAGER, BALTIMORE ORIOLE, and SPOTTED SANDPIPER.
Back home, male CANADA and CAPE MAY WARBLERS highlighted the warbler
visitants, which also included PARULA, BLACK-THROATED GREEN and lingering
YELLOW-RUMPED WARBLERS. A BALTIMORE ORIOLE and INDIGO BUNTING added more
color to the
proceedings. I thought I was down to one lingering female PURPLE FINCH but as
I type this two brilliant plumaged males are feeding on sunflower seeds.
However, I have not seen the two RED BREASTED NUTHATCHES, which first appeared
last August, since last Saturday, April 26, so I hope they are now on a safe
journey north.
