Weather:
Beautiful day with moderate NW winds and partly cloudy sky. Clear
visibility and temps of 10.5-20.2C.
Raptor Observations:
A busy morning with 15, 38, and 56 Broad-winged Hawks in the 9, 10, and
11am hours. Several small groups and one larger group of 29 containing one
Peregrine Falcon (unaged) at 11:30am.
Nine Bald Eagles: 7 adults (10:24, 10:31, 12:10, 2:35, 3:12, 3:25, 4:03)
and two immatures (10:31 1st-YR and 12:55 imm.). First raptor was 8:50
Broad-winged Hawk and last raptor was 4:05 Osprey.
Non-raptor Observations:
3 Hot air balloons welcomed us soon after sunrise. 13 Monarchs. 3 Greater
Yellowlegs, 145 Swifts, 11 Hummingbirds, 2 Red-headed Woodpecker, 30 Tree
Swallow, 5 Raven, 37 Waxwing, 12 Cape May Warbler, 1 Magnolia Warbler, 1
Yellow-rumped Warbler, 2 Scarlet Tanager.
Today we had another successful Open House with lots of visitors, grilled
hot dogs and veggie burgers, and plenty of activities and exhibits
including: Wildlife Center of Virginia raptor program, Augusta Bird Club,
raptor identification workshops, Monarchs - egg to butterfly, Master
Naturalists, American Kestrel exhibit, and more.
