Had a ton of help today: Sue and Tim (these two spotted at least half the
birds), Bill and Katie J, Bill, Robert M and his wife, Andrew and his
parents, Gretch and Diane, Bob, Pete, Ms Gilbert and her daughter, Judy and
hubby, Carol and Laura, and Linda and Tom. Your help was greatly
appreciated. If I missed anyone I apologize. Ranger Cat Lipp set up a
display re the monarchs and hawks today.
Weather:
Beautiful day. Started a bit chilly with temperature at 54F and climbed as
high as 68F. Wind started slow, but picked up later in the morning. Winds
were 0-3, with it quieting in the last hour and a half. Winds started NW,
but shifted to N or NE as the day went on. Visibility a 5 all day. Cloud
cover varied from 5% to 80%.
Raptor Observations:
Nice day for BW's. First bird was a BW at 10:15a. Most birds were seen to
the West until the wind shifted to the NE. Then we began to see them over
the top of the knob and on the Eastern side. Afternoon raptors tended
toward high elevations. Mature BE 10:20a, mature BE 10:35a, 3rd yr BE
11:30a, mature ABE 2:45p, mature BE 3:50p, 4th yr BE 3:55p. Nice look at a
NH that came over the knob in the last hour. No large kettles today, just a
loose grouping of 8.
Non-raptor Observations:
2 Monarchs.
Predictions:
Another nice day with slightly stronger NE wind. Hopefully another strong
showing by the raptors.
