Official Counter: Rose Thomas
Observers: Brenda Tekin, Jenn Detweiler
Visitors:
John McGee, and David Fox. New Rockfish Gap counter Jenn Detweiler was on
board as an observer for her first time today. Welcome to the team, Jenn!
Weather:
Overall, a rather nice day for our last day of August! Light wind all day,
out of the WNW early, and out of the ESE later in the day. Less humid and
slightly cooler than the last few days (22.2-29.8C). 100% cloud cover
early, decreasing to 15% by 12:00pm EST and increasing back to 50% clouds
by 3pm.
Raptor Observations:
Surprisingly, quite a decent day! A nice showing of Broad-wings, most
distant off to the east over the Cut Through, likely would have gone unseen
if not for the nice spotting clouds.
Highlight birds today included the season's second Northern Harrier and 2
more Bald Eagles (both adults, 12:58pm and 2:39pm).
Non-raptor Observations:
7 Cedar Waxwings, 25 Chimney Swifts, 1 Hummingbird, 2 Scarlet Tanagers.
Predictions:
Mixed sun/clouds, light NE Wind, slight chance of showers and thunderstorms
in the late afternoon.
