Weather:
Hot muggy day again with temps ranging from 23.8 to 29.4, barometer 30.08
falling to 30.02, variable and light winds through most of the watch with a
final ESE breeze that produced no raptors. Cloud cover ranged from 40% to
30% and back to 40% with increasing dark clouds in the W and WNW heading
toward us, perhaps remnants of the tropical storm. Visibility improved
from a 3 early to a 4 later.
Raptor Observations:
Ospreys were all high (but within Katie's range) as were the BWs and the
eagles were lower. IBE at 10:51, ABEs at 12:17 and 2:25.
This gives the watch 24 Ospreys for the month of August, a new record - the
previous high was 20 in 2009. The 8/29/15 Osprey count of 14 is also a new
daily high for August going back to the 1970's. The disparity in our count
and Rockfish's may be evidence that the hawks do not follow our range and
that we are seeing different hawks.
Non-raptor Observations:
Dillard was dancing to John Prine today. Too many motorcycles. No
hikers...
Predictions:
Carl will be on the mountain.
