On August 2nd we had our third annual hummingbird count at feeders in
Central Virginia. We had 283 participants who reported 2080 hummingbirds
at 564 feeders. The high count for birds at a single site was 65 birds
visiting 10 feeders at a home in Amherst County. Although both
participation and number of birds reported increased substantially this
year (148 participants reported 1102 birds at 340 feeders in 2003), the
number of birds per feeder remained virtually unchanged from 2003 to
2004.
