Hannah and I spent a few hours this morning at Staunton River State Park.
Overall the birding was a bit slow with no waterfowl other than a couple
Buffleheads and no shorebirds. The water level has been down for so long
that all the mudflats are covered in grass. Highlights were an adult Bald
Eagle that stole a large fish from a group of crows, a pair of adult
Harriers, 2 Rusty Blackbirds flipping leaves with a group of about 30
Grackles, at least 3 Red-headed Woodpeckers, and approximately 24
Bonaparte's Gulls.
