Greetings, VA Birders,
A friend and I found a great spot at Jamestown Island yesterday. Lots of areas
in the woods still have standing water from the high water Sandy pushed onto
the island last week
Eight Rusty Blackbirds were foraging around in one of these shallow flooded
woodland areas. Also a Winter Wren popped up briefly on a fallen tree trunk. Up
in the canopy, Hairy Woodpecker, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, and Red-breasted
Nuthatches flitted around in the sunny spots. And of course, the ubiquitous
Yellow-rumped Warblers! They are everywhere!! A no-show for the Brown Creeper
seen there Sunday.
I'm waiting for the Evening Grosbeaks!
