Several years back I had a very similar experience. It was during a very
strong snow storm that I had about 300 Pine Siskins eating me out of house
and home. I had to fill up the feeders about 4 or 5 times a day.
On my first time out to refill the feeders early on a Sunday morning, I was
just about to hang up the thistle feeder when the siskins landed on the
feeder, then my extended arm and some even landed on the top of my hood
pulled over my head.
I walked into the house to show my wife who was still in the bed. I had to
go through the kitchen, living room and hall to get to our bedroom for her
to see them. Then I had to return back outside to hang the feeder up. Not
a single bird flew off of me until I got back outside.

Today I carried a large cup of sunflower seeds to the platform feeder. There
were several Pine Siskins on the thistle sock. I moved closer slowly until I
was about 4 feet from them. I held out the cup of seed and waited. Within 30
seconds one siskin flew over and landed on the cup. Soon there were several
more perching on the cup and on me. For the next few minutes they used me as
a perch. My wife took several photos. You can see them at
