Today 07 March I found a single Savannah Sparrow in the field next to the water
plant North of Cub Run Rec Center, western Fairfax County.
Other sparrows included a single White-Throated, and lots of Songs and Juncos.
The Savannah was much less timid than a nearby Song Sparrow, allowing me to get
very close before flying a short distance to a low shrub.
I thought it was nearly as large as the Song Sparrow; but the extensive
streaking on the sides, tame-ish behavior, and simpler malar pattern make me
think it was a Savannah vs. a Vesper.
