A phoebe singing, or calling, is a sign of the changing season, though even
here in the mountains of Virginia, I have seen a few every winter.
However, in Spring Valley (Grayson County), I heard a phoebe for the first
time on Sunday morning.
Also, the song sparrows and red-winged blackbirds are filling the airwaves
with great promise of things to come.

I was walking along State Route 737 near the creek at the marsh area and
heard my first phoebe of the season calling . I also heard many meadow
larks along the farm roads and still saw hundreds of robins.
