I've been living on the water on Little Hunting Creek for eight months now
and have delighted at the almost nightly sounds of the Barred Owls calling.
I know these are common up the watershed at Huntley Meadows. For the past
two nights however, I was thrilled to hear a Screech Owl - something I've
only heard once before in 30 years visiting Huntley. I am familiar with the
Screech Owl's mournful whiney from upstate NY.
Has anyone else heard this owl? Both nights I heard it around 10-11 pm and
both times the bird seemed to move further off up the watershed, i.e.
towards Rt 1 and Huntley beyond?
