A Red-necked Stint that just showed up in Texas reminded me that July is when
migrating shorebirds start showing up. I think Ned posted something to that
effect some years ago. Photos of the Stint are at

so we know what to look for, LOL.
The notion of looking for mudflats in the piedmont is still passing strange,
but I don't think any shorebirds are strictly coastal/salt water. That
Sand-plover was in Staunton. Does anyone know if Leonard's Pond is still a
viable spot? I'm planning a mammal trip to the area and will go by if nothing
has changed.
OT, but I had two White-footed Deermice in my yard a couple nights ago, they
came to black oil sunflower seeds and tolerated the porch light so I could get
photos. Quite surprising!
What's out there? is an endlessly fascinating question, IMHO.
