The Short-ears were still present in the field on Crenshaw Road north of
Marshall on Thursday evening. I was there along with one other man. It was very
windy and cold and the sky was clear. We were treated to lots of aerial
displays, including interactions, by 5 or 6 Northern Harriers while we waited.
The
owls did not appear until well after sunset and after the light was getting
weak.
Because of the light, it was difficult to keep track of flying birds against
the dark backdrop of the mountains, but there may have been as many as 3
birds. Twice an owl perched high in a tree--once at the back side of the field
and
once in one of the big trees along the road providing a nice, if dark, view.
A White-crowned Sparrow also made an appearance in one of the small bushes
opposite the parking area.
