For the past 2 days, I've observed a single solitary sandpiper at the
overflow spring-fed seep that drains the pond on Laurel Fork Rd. in
Highland County. Early August seemed a bit early to me for the arrival of
that species. Also the number of Cedar Waxwings here have been
increasing. Currently there is one building yet another nest in my
backyard in New Hampden- does this seem late for a last brood in the
mountains? If anyone has comments or knowledge on either of these 2
observations, I'd love to hear from you. Also, since John Spahr is working
on our Bath/Highland Bird book, these dates will be useful for that
purpose.
