I was birding on my property Saturday afternoon and noticed a Song
Sparrow singing from a low exposed snag. Another Song Sparrow was
foraging in the undergrowth below the snag, presumably a female since
the male did chase it away. I noticed that the male would sing almost
all the song then stop and the female would finish the last few notes. I
would never have known he wasn't singing it all except for seeing her
beak open and her throat moving in sync with the song, and his beak
closed. Has anyone else ever noticed this happening?
