During a University of Mary Washington ornithology field trip to Spotsylvania
Courthouse National Military Park, we saw a RED-HEADED WOODPECKER. This is my
first sighting at this location in my 11 years of regularly birding the park.
Added to the NORTHERN FLICKER, YELLOW-BELLIED SAPSUCKER, PILEATED, RED-BELLIED,
HAIRY, and DOWNY WOODPECKER that we also saw or heard, we completed a
"woodpecker clean-sweep"...a first in for us in one morning in one place!
