VA BIRDers,
I birded the Widewater area of Stafford Co (its along the Potomac and ends
just north of Aquia Creek) starting at about 8 am and ending near 1030.
Then, I headed down to Aquia Landing SP (south of Aquia Creek, about 30 min
away as one must go back to Rt 1, go south for a few miles and then head
east) and birded there from about 1100 to 1230. I turned out when possible
along the road - a big issue in the Widewater area where lots of good
habitat could not be sampled. Overall delightful birding with minimal
walking - highlights were good with tops being the 2 Sora and 1 Virginia
Rail at the Aquia Landing SP marsh. Also tallied were Trail's Flycatcher, 5
species of thrush and 14 species of warbler - totaled 64 species for the
morning. I list the highlights below.
