I met Paul Glass and Jeff Blalock at Staunton View Park in Mecklenburg Co.
today. We had a good day. There was less shorebird habitat there this week than
last week due to high water but we still picked up 10 species of shorebirds
including a RUDDY TURNSTONE and 2 AMERICAN GOLDEN-PLOVERS. We made an effort to
bird the woods near the parking lot and at the adjacent Hogan Creek WMA and had
11 warbler species highlighted by an adult male GOLDEN-WINGED WARBLER. Other
warblers included BLACK-AND-WHITE, HOODED, MAGNOLIA, CHESTNUT-SIDED,
BLACK-THROATED BLUE, PINE, YELLOW-THROATED, NORTHERN PARULA, COMMON
YELLOWTHROAT and YELLOW-BREASTED CHAT. Other noteworthy birds included a
BALTIMORE ORIOLE, 3 BLACK TERNS, 2 CASPIAN TERNS, a first cycle HERRING GULL
and 9 BLUE-WINGED TEAL. Complete ebird list below for those interested. Good
birding.
