Hello all
I went out this morning to do a little checking around to see what was out
there . For thwe past few days we have been having several thunder storms
with lots of rain in various areas of Augusta County . This morning I hit
pay dirt . On Bells Lane there was a singing Magnolia Warbler . ( usually
you see them in higher elevations this time of year . Also on the back pond
was a first summer female Hooded Merganser . In the Swoope area at Smith's
Pond there were several Killdeer which is normal for this time of year but
on the mud flats with the killdeer was a lone Least Sandpiper in breeding
plumage . I know that some imm. birds from last year wander or is this one
that has finished breeding & is moving back south ???? The bird only knows
the answer . Any way over at Quillen's the large pond as you drive thru the
gate is receding & the water level is now good for waders like Glossy ,
White Isbis or some of the larger shorebirds . This pond should be check
after a good strom front pushes thru . As of today I counted 6 Green Heron
what are using this place .
