Apparently we live in a tardy band. Every spring I stand poised, bins in
hand waiting for the migrants that birders are seeing to the south east and
north west of us. Two, three weeks later they flood through as though there
were no urgent need on their part.
Then in the fall I panic when the southward surge reaches Roger Mayhorne,
Jerry Via and Bill Akers and I am looking at chickadees and titmice. Today,
three weeks after all of the hoopla from both of my flanks I have a bonanza
in the bathing area. 3 male hoodeds, 2 chestnut-sideds, 2 magnolias, 1
Tennessee, an almost fully molted male scarlet tananger, a black-throated
green and too many redstarts to keep track of all within 15 minutes.
Definitely in a tardy band,
