VA BIRDers,
Highlight to a morning visit at Dyke Marsh today was the continuing
Nashville Warbler, nearly to the first opening as you head south on Haul Rd.
Off the picnic area the duck show continued with 5 Redheads mixed in. The
frozen Hunting Creek mudflats held 4 Dunlin plus 5 Bald Eagles - 2 more
eagles were noted to the south.
Off Belmont Marina the thousands of ducks were quite distant and the heat
haze over the water was an obstacle to ID'ing all but a few. Yet nearby,
larids were present with one hatch year Lesser Black-backed on the water
with dozens of Greater Black-backeds and Herring Gulls.
A late afternoon visit to Roach's Run produced notables such as 5 Wood Ducks
and a Great Egret. Some Brown-headed Cowbirds were along GW Parkway near
Dangerfield Island.
