Nov. 28, 2013: Highlights include an Eurasian Widgeon on Swan Cove Pool (B.
& L. Schamerhorn), White Ibis (30+) on the small pool opposite Black Duck
Pool, an interspecies aggressive behavior between a Great Egret and a Great
Blue Heron, and a Merlin (seen on 11/26).
The White Ibis were foraging from noon to one o'clock around the small pool
of water across from Black Duck Pool. The immature birds followed two
adults in clockwise fashion around the water twice.
Just a little south on the same side of the road, a Great Egret flew over a
Great Blue Heron and extended its feet as to rake the head of the Great
Blue. The Great Blue Heron lowered its head to avoid a direct hit but the
feet did hit the top of the head.
On Tuesday, 11/26, a Merlin popped up onto a sign and during the rain
turned its head to survey the sandpipers in Swan Cove Pool. He then took
off after the sandpipers.
