This evening after doing some birding at Crewe's Channel in Henrico Co, my
husband and I were driving on Rt 5 back towards 295, when I saw a Great
Horned Owl perched in the woods off the side of the road. He stopped, and I
was able to get out and snap a photo. There were actually two owls perched
not far from each other, but only one perched long enough for a picture.
After that, we headed to the Chester Target for some shopping, and
amazingly, there was another Great Horned Owl perched in a tree near the
northwest corner of the Target parking lot. For those of you who know the
area, the Target store is near the intersection of Rt 1 (Jeff Davis Hwy) and
Rt 10 (Old Hundred Road). This is an area full of stores and strip
malls--it was an amazing sight to see an owl looking down on all the
traffic. I was able to snap a photo of him as well. Here are the links:
