Greetings to all:
Went to Staunton River Battlefield State Park early this morning to look for
American Bittern and ducks.
Boy was I surprised when I went to the overlook behind the visitor center to
look for ducks. All I could see was water. The impoundment behind the
center was completely flooded over as well as a large amount of the fields
on the other side of Staunton River in Charlotte Co.
I walked across the bridge over the river and was hit in the face by the
COLD COLD strong wind. I braved the cold for as long as I could and made a
retreat to the car for some warmth.
I drove over to Charlotte Co. and after I got on Randalph Rd with the
flooded fields on my right I soon came up on a large flock of Tree Swallows.
I estimated the size of all of the swallows to be around 200.
I also saw a large number of crows taking advantage of the flooded fields
and a Northern Harrier.
