The great Tundra Swan migration which occurred last night most likely explains
why the lonely swan that has been in the Potomac by the Hunting Creek Bridge in
Alexandria/Fairfax waters now has a buddy again.
During a quick stop on my way to work, I counted 51 Northern Shovelers in the
cove between Jones Point, the Wilson Bridge and the Hunting Creek towers, as
well as about 80 or so Coots and 20 Mallards. It seems like conditions there
might be improving for waterfowl after the years of construction on the bridge.
