Today I was putting out prothonotary warbler boxes at Hardwood MiIls
Reservoir in Yorktown when I observed two turkey vultures bantering back and
forth.
While 8 other vultures looked on, the two locked talons and fell 50 feet
crashing through the understory. Neither appeared hurt as both took to the
air
after the engagement.
The great blue heron rookery was in full swing with many sitting on their
nests. I also enjoyed hearing a barred owl, but I never saw it. A very nice
day to be out in the kayak.
