A few years ago the University built a pond at the "Dell" located along
Emmet St. across from the Parking Garage.
Occasionally a few waterfowl have found their way to this spot. There are
currently two hybrid mallard species along with a small number of Canada
Geese (strongly discouraged).
Several days ago while out on an errand during lunch hour, frogs were heard.
There is at this moment a lovely Great Blue Heron poised along the banks
searching for a tasty morsel.
For further information on this pond, check out this UVa link:

This might be a good early morning spot to check out during spring
migration!
