Greetings all
I just want to thank the trip leaders and organizers for this fantastic weekend
of birding
I got up at 0300 hrs every day eager to start birding ASAP since Thursday. You
would think I would be in the bed by now but I am wide awake and keyed up from
all of the birds that we saw
I started birding at VA Beach hitting Pleasant House Point and then Rudee Inlet
on Thursday
Friday the only day that I went on one of the field trips which was the day
trip to the CBBT Islands and nearby areas on the Eastern Shore, where the key
birds of the day was the Gray Kingbird and two White-winged Doves at the
Eastern Shore NWR which everyone got great looks and pictures
Saturday, I went out on the pelagic with Brian Patteson and Kate his first
mate. With many experts on board we saw Great Shearwater, Parasitic Jaeger, BL
Kittiewakes, Red Phalaropes, 2 flyby Razorbills and several Northern Fulmur at
close views.
Sunday I made a trip to Grandview Beach to with the help of several birds to
look for the YH Blackbird which we didn't see but we did see 50 Tundra Swans
flying overhead.
I then walked out about 3.5 miles along the beach to look for marsh sparrows
but did find any of them either.
I was joined with Rich Rieger at the beginning of the beach walk and he spotted
a pair of Common Goldeneye in the water and we both got great looks before they
flew off. There were several RT Loons up close to get a good look at them.
All I can say is that if you didn't make the trip you missed a lot of great
birding, seeing old friends and meeting new friends and so good seafood as well.
So mark you calendars for next December to make it VA Beach for the VSO field
trip and I hope to see you there next year.
I hope that each of you have a Very Merry Christmas and to remember the reason
for the season and a Happy New and Very Birdie Year in 2016. 😀😀
