My husband and I went into Dam Neck Annex today and found a female
Canvasback in the company of Hooded Mergansers and a pair of Blue-winged
Teal and a female Ring-necked Duck. The Canvasback really surprised us as
we have never seen one on the base and in shallow stream water. She was in
good condition. Making our way into near-by Camp Pendleton on the road to
the beach we observed 12-15 Blue-gray Gnatcatchers, one lone Golden-crowned
Kinglet, a Prairie Warbler and White-eyed Vireo. The Vireo and Prairie was
nice some-what early arrivals :-)
