Here are a few more photos of the aberant Laughing Gull on CBBT Island
1 including a few flight photos. Also included is a photo of the
White-cheeked Pintail Plus a Peregrine Falcon and Merlin from
Chincoteague NWR that scattered the Shorebird flock but not the Duck
flock. The Duck flock scattered when the Bald Eagle flew over a few
minutes later.

I also saw the bird in question today and I also Identified it as
Black-headed. Upon further review of my photos, I now agree that it's a
Laughing Gull. I think the telling point is the fact that the mantle is much
too dark for a BHG. The shape is wrong too.

For my two cents. The bill is the wrong shape for BHG and especially the
colour
of the mantle is wrong. BHG are light grey, the wing pattern would certainly
be
diagnostic if you or anyone got any flight shots.
I speak with some experience of someone from the UK that used to watch a
20,000
strong BHG roost hoping for a Laughing Gull and who acted as a kind of US
consultant to the local birders when one turned up after I came to the US.

just thought since I was fortunate enough to get a good close shot of the

I would share it.

On closer examination, I did notice a difference in the white half-ring only
of
eye-ring on all the other laughing gulls. I am not sure of the significance of
this or even if it has any significance but it is different.
